I believe passionately in being able to make informed choices and decisions. My purpose in the counselling room is to enable you to identify what is keeping you stuck, and working together to sort through what is possible and achievable
I can help you to sort out the pieces of your puzzle and fit them together; setting realistic goals and help you understand your particular strengths and skills which will support you on your journey through life
My background has been working in health and social service settings, with a range of client groups from all ages, ethnicities, abilities and backgrounds.
My areas of specialty are post natal depression and the ageing process
I have personally experienced
Motherhood - I have two grown up children living in the UK
Loss and grief - I have experienced the loss of a child and close family stuck
Divorce and remarriage - rebuilding and moving on
Moving to a new country and starting afresh
Being a mature student
Managing change and new challenges
Currently I work with PND Wellington - Post/Ante Natal Distress, voluntary counselling for an agency in Wellington and in private practice in the Wellington region
I have a Bachelor in Counselling, Certificate in Adult Teaching and Certificate in Management
Professional Affiliation
I am a Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (MNZAC) and work within their Code of Ethics & Complaints Process
All NZAC Members are required to take part in regular clinical supervision. This may oblige me to discuss anonomised aspects of my work with my Supervisor who is themselves an NZAC Counsellor and who is also bound by the NZAC Code of Ethics as to confidentiality.
I am also involved in regular cultural and peer supervision, training and personal development
